1. REVIEW THE "NPTE CANDIDATE HANDBOOK"
Carefully and thoroughly review the NPTE Candidate handbook. All the
information you need to know about the exam and exam administration is
included in the handbook.
2. PLAN AHEAD
For example, if you will be traveling from overseas for the examination make
sure to schedule your trip with your exam date in mind. Or, if you are
pregnant or will be having surgery, you should not schedule your appointment
within 6 weeks on either side of your scheduled event.
3. CHECK YOUR ID
As soon as you receive your Authorization to Test (ATT) letter make sure
that you have two forms of ID that are currently valid and have the same
name as the name on your ATT letter. The name on your ATT letter is the
name that has been submitted to Prometric and your ID must match that name
exactly. You will not be admitted to the testing center without proper
identification and will have to reapply to take the exam and forfeit any
fees paid.
4. SCHEDULE EARLY
When you receive your Authorization to Test (ATT) letter it indicates that
you have 60 days in which to schedule your appointment and take the exam.
It is in your best interest to schedule your appointment as soon as
possible. Scheduling early means you will have a better chance of securing
an appointment at the testing center of your choice on the date and time of
your choice. If you wait to schedule your appointment, you may not find a
testing center close to you that has appointments available.
5. TEST EARLY
Do not schedule your appointment to test at the end of your eligibility
period. Something may come up and you may need to cancel your appointment
and reschedule. If you plan to take your exam toward the end of your
eligibility period and then need to reschedule, your options are limited.
If you cannot reschedule within your eligibility period, you will have to
withdraw and reapply, or forfeit your fees.
6. CONFIRM YOUR APPOINTMENT DATE & TIME
Take advantage of Prometric's automated confirmation system that is
available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 800-796-9857 a week or two
before your appointment to be sure that what you have written down as your
appointment date and time is what Prometric has in their system as well. If
you schedule online you will receive an email confirmation of your
appointment. To schedule your testing appointment with Prometric online,
visit Prometric's website, www.prometric.com.
7. VERIFY DIRECTIONS
It is a good idea to look up the location of the testing center on a map
prior to your appointment date. The testing center may provide you with
directions but they may not be the quickest route from your location and may
not take into account construction or heavy traffic points along the way.
It is your responsibility to get to the testing center 30 minutes prior to
your scheduled appointment.
8. QUESTIONS?
If you have questions about the National Physical Therapy Examination or
questions about how to register for the NPTE, you can make inquiries via
email, examregistration@fsbpt.org, or call
the Federation of State Boards of
Physical Therapy (FSBPT) at 703-739-9420.
