FSBPT has compiled and analyzed data on textbook use from a survey of PT and PTA education programs conducted in the spring of 2006. The purpose of the survey was to determine whether textbooks currently used in PT and PTA education courses are included in the reference library used in developing the NPTE.
Data were gathered from 95 PT programs and 120 PTA programs; an average of 40 texts per program was reported by the PT programs and 19 per program by the PTA programs. The results of the survey, including regional breakdowns of the most frequently used texts and the names of textbooks used in at least 50% of the programs that responded, are listed below.
The next steps are to identify frequently used textbooks that are not currently included in the NPTE reference library and to seek examination development committee members’ recommendations in selecting books from this group to add to the library.
