Preparing a Mobile Generation for License Portability: PT Compact

FSBPT's Vice President, Richard Woolf, will be part of a presentation on the PT Compact at APTA's Educational Leadership Conference, held October 18-20, in Bellevue, Washington. The session will cover the history of the PT Compact, provide experiences of PT faculty educating students about the PT Compact, and examine the benefits and risks that come with license portability. Discussion will also include how the PT Compact may impact the future of physical therapy in terms of developing a diverse and culturally competent PT workforce. The session will also share legislative efforts to enact the PT Compact in non-member states as well as potential obstacles to implementation. Tarang Kumar Jain, a professor at Northern Arizona University, and Catherine Ortega, a professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center, will also present.

NPTE Workshop for Educators—Now on the West Coast!

FSBPT will host the NPTE Workshop for Educators Saturday and Sunday, October 5-6, 2019, in Los Angeles, California, at the Hyatt Regency Los Angeles International Airport. Like the workshops held at the FSBPT offices, attendees should expect to receive valuable insights on how the NPTE is developed and how to prepare students for the NPTE as well as hands-on assistance in writing test items similar to those on the NPTE.

Please check the NPTE Workshop for Educators webpage for more information and registration resources as we continue to update and solidify details.

This Quarter's Question

What is INPTRA?

The purpose of the International Network of Physiotherapy Regulatory Authorities (INPTRA) is to promote excellence in physiotherapy regulation around the world. FSBPT is the secretariat for INPTRA.

In May, physiotherapists, regulators, stakeholders, and accreditors from across the globe came together in Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the biannual INPTRA Conference. The conference began with a warm welcome from William Hatherill, the chair of the INPTRA Board of Directors. There were several presentations, café sessions, discussion groups, and poster presentations on important topics such as regulatory challenges, digital practice, assessing entry-level competence, physiotherapy standards, and more. More detailed information is available on the INPTRA 2019 conference page.

INPTRA’s mission is to promote and contribute to the continuous development of leading regulatory practice through education, information sharing, and other collaborative activities with key stakeholders worldwide. This biannual meeting provides an important platform for members to meet, network, and share their research, challenges, and successes. If you are interested in learning more about INPTRA please visit www.INPTRA.org. We encourage you to support our cause and become a member!

What Students Need to Know

NPTE Testing Procedures

Here are tips to help exam candidates avoid some of the most common NPTE testing procedure violations and to maximize the time available to complete the exam. Details for all of the test day procedures and requirements are included in the Candidate Handbook.

  • Prometric will provide clean whiteboards and dry erase markers for exam candidates to use during the exam. Exam candidates are not permitted to write on the whiteboards before launching the examination tutorial. Prometric test center administrators will take away the whiteboard and provide a clean one if an exam candidate is seen taking notes before they reach the tutorial.
  • A scheduled fifteen-minute break is allotted after completing section two of the exam. When the time on the break ends, the timer on the exam continues. The exam timer resumes count down regardless of whether or not the candidate has returned to their exam station/room. Therefore, it is important that candidates return from their breaks on time.
  • Unscheduled breaks can be taken between other sections when the “Unscheduled Break” screen is showing. It is important to note the examination timer will continue to count down during unscheduled breaks.
  • Candidates are not allowed to access their cell phones or any study materials from their lockers during breaks.
  • Candidates should not leave the testing center during the exam or during breaks.

Get Involved

Learn how to become a National Physical Therapy Examination item writer.

Serving as an item writer for the NPTE is a great way to share your expertise, network with colleagues, and contribute to the examination development process. As a volunteer, you will attend a weekend workshop hosted by FSBPT staff and experienced NPTE volunteers and learn how to develop NPTE-style items. Many of our item writer volunteers enjoy their experience so much that they go onto to join various committees and task forces where they continue to support the mission of our organization in many different ways.

Volunteer Opportunities
You’ll find the opportunity to become an item writer for the NPTE at www.fsbpt.org/Volunteers.
