NPTE Video Items
Physical therapy involves movement. Therefore, it only makes sense that the NPTE would test candidates’ observation and understanding of physical movement.
FSBPT will be introducing video items beginning with the October NPTE administrations. Video items are similar to the current graphic items, and this builds on our previous work adding graphics. The videos are very brief, typically ten seconds or less. The candidate will need to access the video to answer the question.
Consistent with this change, earlier this summer, we updated the current PT and PTA Academic and Individual PEAT forms to include several video items. Any PEAT purchased now will include these items. We also updated the NPTE Demonstration Exam on our public website to include video items.
Adding video items is a big step and will allow the NPTE to be an even stronger and more robust assessment tool, further promoting public protection.

2022 Candidate Statement for the Council of Board Administrators (CBA)
We are pleased to announce that Karen Gordon will be running for this year’s 2022 CBA Vice Chair. We encourage you to read her candidate statement:
As we emerge from the challenges that all of us have faced over the last several years, new norms in compliance and regulation are being forged. Innovative ways of approaching the operational processes of our respective Boards and agencies have resulted in improved efficiencies. We have learned to adapt from in-person to virtual meetings and remote working; from paper and snail mail to digitized intake methods; from “this is the way we have always done things” to a new way forward. As the Vice-Chair, it would an honor to continue with the outreach and mentoring efforts that have been initiated by the CBA as we all ride the waves into this new frontier of regulation.
2022 FSBPT Board of Directors and Nominating Committee Candidates
The Nominating Committee held a virtual Candidate Forum on Thursday, July 14, to introduce 2022 candidates for the Board of Directors and the Nominating Committee, in addition to a Candidate Forum in the fall. Members can watch the recording in the new FSBPT Member Portal. Please also learn more about each candidate by reading the Candidate Statements.
Please join FSBPT in thanking the 2022 Nominating Committee Members, Debbie Kubota (Chair), Joseph Shanley, and Ron Barredo, for their work this year.

Take FSBPT’s Money!
Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas have recently taken a big step toward both administrative efficiency and protecting the public. They will leverage FSBPT funds to update their electronic systems, use the FSBPT ID, and send data to the Examination, Licensure, and Disciplinary Database (ELDD).
Your state should be next!
Thanks in part to savings experienced by holding virtual meetings and the recent overall investment performance, FSBPT’s board was able to set aside a $2.2 million grant for FSBPT member jurisdictions. Jurisdictions can apply for grants to fund consulting, programming, data entry, technological upgrades, and other activities that enhance updates to the ELDD.
We encourage you to reach out to Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, and Texas to learn more about how they are using this great resource. Please also let us know how we can help!
FSBPT Forum: Using the Board Assessment Resource (BAR) Tool as Part of Strategic Planning
The Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy had used the early framework of the BAR to assess board performance during strategic planning to improve operations, orientation of board members and staff, and retention of information. This article is based on a 2020 Annual Meeting Webinar presented by Steven Scherger.
The purpose of this page is to provide information and general guidance to physical therapy jurisdictional authorities for regulating the use of telehealth technologies in the practice of physical therapy.

In The News
"Fraud is the killjoy at the telehealth party," Politico, Ben Leonard, August 7, 2022
"The problem for Congress is a dearth of data and limited time. To try and get more data, Congress this spring mandated a Department of Health and Human Services watchdog report on fraud risks. More and more information about how patients used telehealth during the pandemic is coming in, but the clock is ticking. Congress needs to decide what to do soon, since the existing telehealth flexibilities will expire five months after HHS lifts the Covid-19 public health emergency. HHS has extended the emergency 10 times since it was first announced in January 2020, but Biden administration officials are considering sticking to the current expiration date in October."
