Plan for the New Year!
It's almost time for New Year's Resolutions! In between dusting off your running shoes or tackling that DIY project, be sure to keep these FSBPT goals in mind:
- Select your Voting Delegate, Alternate Delegate, and Funded Administrator. We will send administrators instructions on how to enter these selections in the new year.
- Keep up with the latest regulatory issues by registering for our virtual 2023 Regulatory Workshop for Board Members and Administrators, held March 10-12, 2023.
- Check out the Alternate Approval Pathway—a free service for jurisdictions that decreases registration processing time.
- Partner with FSBPT to send licensure data on a weekly basis. We have grant options available to all members, including funds for PT Compact members.
- Confirm your board roster and personal contact information is correct in the Members' Area. If you have any issues logging in or making changes, please contact us.
- Save the Dates!

Changes to the NPTE
Over the past year, FSBPT has been working diligently to continue to update and improve many aspects of the National Physical Therapy Examinations, from candidate registration to examination development and delivery. Some of these efforts have already been implemented, while others will take effect in 2023 and 2024. Learn more by reading this article: "2022 NPTE Updates: Research, Innovation, and Practice Analysis Updates." Please be on the lookout for more information on these changes on the FSBPT website and in the News Briefs.

Jurisdictional Changes that Affect Non-CAPTE Graduates
If your jurisdiction has a rule, regulation, or law change that affects non-CAPTE graduates, it is important that you notify the Foreign Credentialing Commission on Physical Therapy (FCCPT) of the change. This will allow FCCPT to complete the correct evaluation that is required by the jurisdiction and correctly advise applicants on what is required for licensure. Please send any changes to Jaime Nolan, Managing Director of FCCPT.
Webinar: Challenges for Healthcare Professionals: Management of Substance Use Disorders
The substance use overdose epidemic continues to worsen. We have failed to slow the spread of this complex disease. Many factors contribute to our current state of affairs. Although stigma is our primary barrier, there are other challenges faced across all aspects of healthcare. This presentation will highlight some of those key issues, with a focus on how we can collaboratively overcome them.
NPTE Workshop for Educators
FSBPT is hosting an in-person NPTE Workshop for Educators on February 21-22, 2023, in San Diego, California. This workshop immediately precedes the APTA-CSM conference. The workshop will be held at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, and there will be a special room rate available to attendees. The workshop is expected to run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the first day and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on the second day—however, attendees can stay as late as 6:00 p.m. for individualized instruction. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The workshop fee is $750, and there is an additional fee of $50 if you want a printed version of the electronic materials. “DPT”: Is it a Protected Term in Your Jurisdiction?
Some personal trainers at a large fitness club chain are using DPT as their professional credential. Life Time is a large chain of health clubs that originated in Minnesota and has expanded to other states. Life Time advertises its unique philosophy to personal training, known as Dynamic Personal Training , which strives to keep the client completely engaged by partnering in many exercises with the trainer. At least one jurisdiction has received multiple complaints that Life Time personal trainers are using DPT to denote themselves as a dynamic personal trainer. The term DPT is protected in the practice act of many jurisdictions and prohibits the use of DPT if not licensed as a physical therapist.
If your jurisdiction has updates on steps or actions you have taken regarding this issue, please let us know at communications@fsbpt.org .
